Blueberries and a 4 year old's dream

My kiddos LOVE fruit...especially blueberries. They could eat pounds and pounds of blueberries. The other day, my 4 year old, Luke, opened the fridge looking for the big white bowl of washed blueberries and to his dismay, they were GONE! He was so disappointed. He said to me "Mom, I want to grow a whole bunch of blueberries so I can have them forever and ever". What a GREAT idea!

The problem...I have no garden and I live in Arizona. I guess that's two problems. I have an area reserved to start a garden at the end of the summer. But I have to be honest, I have never heard of anyone in this horridly hot state ever growing blueberries. Does anyone out there know how you grow blueberries and where they actually grow the best? Luke would love you forever if you give me any tips. Thanks.

My very adventurous and future gardener, Luke.

Build a green house to keep moisture in, and I found some information for him. Coming from homeschooling my kids and we grew things in our yard in Texas, where things like this are difficult, I say go for it!

Let him google 'where do blueberries grow', as long as they do not freeze and you grow several varieties to cross pollinate, and order them online...

They grow awesome here! We just went U-picking for blueberries. There in season right now in the Northeast. We have 3 blueberry bushes that we planted, but because they're so small still, we only got a handful of berries. We are going to plant 4 more this year. In a few years when they get big, we'll have more than we can handle! Come visit in the summer and we'll go strawberry picking, blueberry picking, and rasberry picking here. Luke's got good taste! Blueberries are awesome!

Oh my gosh! THEY GROW WILD IN ALASKA. Come visit. Blueberries are on now through the end of August all over the mountains here. COVERED with blueberrieds. We just got some last night on a short hike close to my house.
